The Lucknow Super Giants finally managed to win their first game in the Indian Premier League against the 4-time champions Chennai Super Kings. KL Rahul’s team struggled in the first innings as they conceded 210 runs. Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa were the picks of the CSK batters along with MS Dhoni who turned back the time and hit some powerful shots.

But it was the Super Giants batting that brought them back in the game. The opening pair of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock posted a 99-partnership which was followed by a mini-collapse. Then, West Indian Evin Lewis went ballistic and scored a quickfire 55 off 23 balls to win Lucknow the game.

Surprisingly, in the end,  Lewis wasn’t the one to hit the winning runs. It was a young, uncapped Indian batter Ayush Badoni, who hit a lofted shot over deep mid-wicket to seal the victory. The 18-year old from Delhi scored a scintillating 19 off nine balls with two sixes as he didn’t let the pressure of the chase build up on Lewis alone. But among these two sixes, one of his shots went over fine leg and hit a female fan.

The fan was trying to catch the ball but failed. The ball slipped through her hands and hit directly her head. Fortunately, the fan was fine as no serious damage was done. She was also seen rubbing her head after the incident. Later a stadium staff member also checked up on her.

Badoni a great find for Indian cricket: KL Rahul

Lucknow skipper KL Rahul praised Badoni’s performance in the game. In the post-match interview, he was quoted saying, “He has a big heart and he is a fighter for a young boy. It shows the character to bounce back with the wet ball. He is someone who wants to grow and learn. He spends time with the spin coach. Credit for that should go to Vijay Dahiya and GG. They were the ones who wanted him. His batting has been phenomenal. Can bowl as well. Great find for Indian cricket.”
