The ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League has been full of action, drama and entertainment. From Karachi Kings losing 7 consecutive games to Jason Roy smashing an unbelievable century, from crazy celebrations to breathtaking fielding efforts, the fans have seen it all. However, what happened between Ben Cutting and Sohail Tanvir on Tuesday made things a bit too spicy and surely unacceptable, in terms of spirit of cricket.

It all happened in the 19th over of the first innings as Peshawar Zalmi were on their way to post a competitive total onboard against Quetta Gladiators. Ben Cutting wreaked havoc off the bowling of Sohail Tanvir and there were a few words exchanged between the duo, as Cutting scored 27 runs in the over.

However, there was a moment in the over where things went a bit too over the line. After Cutting had hit the third consecutive six of the over, he made an obscene gesture towards Tanvir, which left everyone quite baffled. It was indeed shocking to see the Aussie reacting in such a way as he is usually cool, calm and composed.

Actually, it looks like Cutting’s reaction had something to do with what happened 4 years back. The rivalry of the duo dates back to 2018 when Sohail Tanvir, after getting hit for a six, had produced the same unacceptable gesture for Cutting, when the Aussie was clean bowled by him in a match of Caribbean Premier League.

Talking about the PSL 2022 match, the drama between the duo did not end with 19th over. Ben Cutting was dismissed on the first ball of next over by Naseem Shah, with Sohail Tanvir taking the catch. The 37-year-old then came up with the same gesture once again to cause more controversy.

Ben Cutting scored 36 runs off 14 balls to guide his side to 185/7 in 20 overs, while Sohail Tanvir registered figures of 4-0-50-0. However, it was an evening where their actions have done more talking than their performances.

Without a doubt, the two players are set to be reprimanded by the match referee for their behaviour during the match. It was indeed surprising to see two such experienced players crossing the boundaries and it will be intriguing to see what is the punishments for them.
