IPL 2021 finally got the first glimpse of 'Gayle storm' on Friday as Punjab Kings' batsman showed his class against his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore. After KL Rahul's side were asked to bat by Virat Kohli in Ahmedabad, they got off to a slow start and lost the early wicket of Prabhsimran Singh. With the score reading 29/1 in 5 overs, Punjab needed a big over to gain some momentum with the powerplay coming to an end.

4, 4, 4, 4, 0, 4 - Gayle storm takes on in Ahmedabad

As Kyle Jamieson came in to bowl the sixth over, the Universe Boss was ready to unleash his explosive mode. Gayle made his intentions clear on the first delivery as he smashed a cracking boundary over the long-off and followed it up with another four towards the mid-wicket region. The 41-year-old then hit two beautiful shots towards the long on to complete four consecutive boundaries. The excitement got pretty high among the fans as everyone visualized a repeat of what Prithvi Shaw did last night.

However, Gayle smashed the next delivery straight to the fielder and could not achieve the feat of scoring six consecutive boundaries. However, he did manage to end the over with another four, making it 20 runs in an over as Punjab reached to 49/1 after the end of powerplay.

The 41-year-old certainly silenced all his critics who wanted him to be dropped to make way for Dawid Malan. Gayle once again proved why he is regarded as one of the best T20 players in the world.

The southpaw was eventually dismissed by Daniel Sams after playing an entertaining knock of 46 runs off 24 deliveries.
