French Open Semi Final

The tennis major French Open is underway in Paris and we have the finalists for the men & women’s singles. While Iga Swiatek will face 18-year-old Coco Gauff in the Women’s Singles final, 13-time champion Rafael Nadal will go against Casper Ruud in Men’s Singles final.

Casper Ruud advanced into final after defeating Marin Cilic in the semi-final. However, the game was in spotlight for more than one reason. A climate protester tied herself to the net during the second semi-final clash. Notably, the young protester ran on the court and tied herself to the net when the score was one-set all and Ruud was leading 4-1 in the third set.

Reports suggests that the protester used metal wires and glue to attach herself to the net in protest of the French government’s inaction against climate change. She was also spotted wearing a t-shirt which read “We have 1028 days left”.

The match was halted for close to 13 minutes before she was taken out by the tournament authorities. “The young woman, of French nationality, entered the grounds with a valid ticket early in the day”, confirmed the organisers.
