For any cricketer, the cricket bat with which he/she scores their first international century always remains very close to their heart. The players often keep the equipment as memorabilia with them safe and secure. However, just like his approach while playing on the field, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh did something incredibly out of the box with his milestone-hitting bat.

After making his debut for India in 2000, the 40-year-old smashed his maiden century (102* from 85 balls) against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 11 April 2003. But in an unimaginable activity, the bat which was used by the cricketer during that knock 18 years back, was recently sent into space.

What is the whole story?

Notably, the whole thing was done by a company named Colexion, who have partnered with Yuvraj Singh to launch his NFT (non-fungible token) collection. They are reportedly creating a one-of-its-kind NFT museum where the fans of the cricketer can be part of the cricketer's journey.

As part of the same, the first possession which fans can own is Yuvraj's maiden-century hitting cricket bat, which became the first-ever minted NFT to be sent into space. A hot-air balloon was launched from earth (at Sheffield in the UK) which carried the signed bat into orbit. At an altitude of around 34000M where Yuvraj was seen addressing his fans in a screen that was fitted in the bat.

It must be noted that the bat has now returned to earth, without any damage. And now, the first NFT of Yuvraj, which contains a 3-D version of him along with his first-century cricket bat which went into space, is set to be live today (December 25) on the official website of Colexion.

It is a great opportunity to connect with the fans: Yuvraj Singh

Reflecting on the same, the 40-year-old told Sports Tak, "First-century bat is always special. I always used to get batting lower down the order and the opportunity to score a hundred was very rare. The first bat (with which he scored a century against Bangladesh) holds a huge significance for me."

"Tying up with Colexion, they have made it truly special and unbelievable that the bat has gone to space. It's a completely prized possession which I will now share with my fans throughout the globe. Obviously, the fans who have supported me over the years, I think it is a great opportunity to connect with them and they can have a piece of me through the bat (NFT), " Yuvraj added.
