Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni became the first player from the franchise to feature in 200 matches. The former India captain has represented the Kings in 176 IPL matches while the remaining caps came in the Champions League T20 tournament. Dhoni, who is popularly known as Thala, has played a total of 206 IPL matches of which 30 have came for the Rising Pune Supergiants, a former IPL team which participated for two seasons when CSK was banned from participating in the tournament.

On the happy occasion, CSK produced a dominating win over Punjab in Mumbai. They got home with six wickets in hand after restricting the KL Rahul-led side to a paltry 106/8. Later, the team shared a short video on social media to give the fans a glimpse of how the special moment was celebrated. Dhoni can be seen cutting a cake surrounded by his teammates to a thunderous applause in the video.

MSD is widely known as one of the most successful captains in the tournament's history leading the CSK to as many as three title wins. In a light-hearted manner, Dhoni said that he feels old after knowing that he has now played 200 matches for the IPL side. He added that it has been quite a journey for himself with the team and playing not only in India but also in South Africa, UAE and now playing at neutral venues in IPL 2021.

CSK, who had lost their IPL opener to Delhi Capitals, are currently the number 2 ranked team in points table. They face Rajasthan Royals next in Mumbai on Monday.
