It has been a far from an ideal start for Prithvi Shaw's T20I career. While the youngster has already seen the ups and downs in his pretty young international career, his T20I journey has started with a golden duck. The right-handed batter had received his maiden T20I cap ahead of the T20I series opener against Sri Lanka at Colombo but couldn't make the most of the occasion as he was sent back in the very first ball of the match. While Shaw usually looks to attack in the first few balls to get himself going, the plan didn't work for him on Sunday.

It was Sri Lanka's Dushmantha Chameera who got the hosts off to a perfect start by dismissing the pocket size dynamo Shaw in the first ball. While Chameera delivered a pure snorter, Shaw, known to play his strokes without too much of a foot movement, edged that delivery and had to take the long walk back with India's scoreboard reading 0/1 in 0.1 overs.

Along with Shaw, Varun Chakravarthy has also made his T20I debut. This also happens to be the first international match for Chakravarthy who failed to make it to the Playing XI battling fitness and injury concerns in the Australia and England series after IPL 2020. However, Chakravarthy would hope that he holds on to the opportunity with both hands unlike Shaw who failed to perform on his T20I debut. Chakravarthy, being a mystery spinner, will get his chance later in the evening when it is India's chance to bowl.

Meanwhile, Chameera would hope that his wicket sets the tone for the remainder of the series. While the home team were 0-2 down in the three-match ODI series which was played prior to the T20Is, they managed to register a comfortable win in the end in the third ODI against the Shikhar Dhawan-led India side and are carrying that momentum into this series.
