Momentum plays a key role in the game of Cricket, particularly in the T20 format. The batters work quite hard to build the innings and get scoring at a quick rate, and even the one instance of losing the momentum can have a direct impact on the outcome of the match.

The same was observed in Match 7 of the Indian Premier League 2022 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The joint leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history, Dwayne Bravo tried to deceive Lucknow captain and opener KL Rahul.

In the 10th over of the LSG innings, Dwayne Bravo gave away two extra runs by bowling wides. After this, Bravo used his old trick of stopping at the popping crease and not delivering the ball, the striker was Rahul. This instance did put a stop to the momentum created by both the openers of LSG. Although, the over went for 8 runs, but lacked boundaries to keep up to the required run rate.

Then Captain KL Rahul looked to accelerate the net run rate in the following over. But, he was unsuccessful in his attempt, as he was dismissed by fast bowler Dwaine Pretorius for a well-made 40 off 26 balls. It did create further in-roads in the batting line-up as Manish Pandey was caught in the mid-off in the next over bowled by youngster Tushar Deshpande.

The LSG team has Evin Lewis and Quinton De Kock at the crease and will have an important role to play in helping the team to get a much-needed win and set a tone for the upcoming matches of the 2022 edition of the tournament. While the next batters, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya will be critical to the team’s success. The biggest hope of CSK will be Dwayne Bravo to put a brake on the run rate in the final few overs.
