Joe Root played a magical hundred in the second innings to help England win the first Test against New Zealand. The Yorkshire-born failed to put up a big score in the first innings but came back stronger than ever as he hit 115 in 170 balls with 12 boundaries. The Three Lions once again had a shaky start to their innings as they were struggling at 69 for the loss of four wickets.

But Root stood strong in the middle and carried England to a much-needed victory. Thanks to the 31-year-old that the Brits ended their ten-game losing streak in the longest format and also helped Brendon McCullum win his first game as the new head coach. Hence, when Root returned to the dressing room, all England gave a hero’s welcome in the pavilion.

"I have really enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of the summer," Root

Addressing his performance against the Kiwis, Root said, “Feels fantastic, winning a Test match after a long team is a great experience. I have really enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of the summer. I always feel that we get great support and appreciate whether home or away and it is nice to see them (crowd). Ben has won many Tests for us when I was captain, it's a great chance for me to give it back to him.”

“So I just want to keep batting as long as I can, win as many games for my side. As long as I have got the energy and drive to do it, I will do it. I could not have wished for a better person to be leading this team (Stokes). I am gonna be backing and do everything I can to help him become successful,” he further added.
