It's been quite an entertaining contest in Dubai on Friday with Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings putting on a spectacular display in pursuit of qualifying for play-offs. After being asked to bat first, the Men in Purple put on a competitive total of 165/7 in 20 overs. There could have been a few more runs on the board but KKR's middle-order had a disappointing outing with captain Eoin Morgan registering another low score.
As his side came out to defend the target, Morgan's horror show in Dubai continued as he missed a catch when Mayank Agarwal smashed a ball off Tim Southee straight towards him at covers. Although the ball was travelling at a rapid pace, the Englishman would have backed himself to grab the opportunity. Unfortunately, he failed and Mayank got an extra life early in the innings.
Morgan finally redeems himself few overs later
The Punjab Kings opener made full use of the chance as he went on to hit some brilliant shots over the course of his innings. However, he finally ran out of luck in the 9th over when he tried to smash a similar shot towards the off side, this time against Varun Chakravarthy. Captain Morgan had still placed himself at the same position for that kind of a shot and this time he did not make any mistake.
The ball was travelling like a bullet but the KKR skipper had positioned himself very well as he showed brilliant reflexes to complete a crucial catch. A well-set Mayank was dismissed on 40 as Eoin Morgan's side got the much-needed breakthrough.
