Sydney Swans’ Lance Franklin scored his 1,000th career goal and became one of six VFL/AFL players to hold this incredible record. Nicknamed Buddy, clinched this record as he drained his fourth goal in Friday night’s game against Geelong Football Club. After this historic moment, spectators ran onto the SCG ground in the final quarter to serenade Franklin for this insane achievement.

The 35-year-old joined Tony Lockett (1,360 goals), Gordon Coventry (1,299 goals), Jason Dunstall (1,254 goals), Doug Wade (1,057 goals) and Gary Ablett (1,031 goals) in the exclusive club. Buddy was at 996 goals before the game and took one step at a time to reach the record. Then in the last quarter, he hit a set shot from the pocket to summit this peak.

SCG crowd rushes on the field to celebrate Buddy Franklin’s 1000th AFL goal:

Former NFL player and podcast creator Pat McAfee congratulated Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin for his extraordinary feat. “This is a once in a generation type thing to have happened, is what I was told by Aussies tweeting me. Buddy f***ing Franklin. This guy, an absolute assassin with the footy. When the Sherrin is in his hand and he’s running up and he’s about to blast it, that son of a b***h could land it in a keyhole if he had to", wrote McAfee.

“He has different spins and curves and bends and magic. I couldn’t help but get overwhelmed with joy for this guy. I’m just pumped for Buddy. This dude just did something awesome. That was amazing. Sports are all the way back right there”, he added.
