Scuderia Ferrari's continued struggles in the 2022 season were evident in the Baku Grand Prix as the Prancing Horse suffered a double DNF. Both of their drivers were out of the race till the 20th lap as Carlos Sainz was pulled out in the ninth lap because he had a hydraulics failure.

Then in the 20th lap, Monaco's Charles Leclerc suffered a second power unit issue in three races to force him to pit and then retire from the race. Later in the Baku GP, Leclerc's Drivers' Championship rival Max Verstappen went on to win the race ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez and Mercedes' George Russell.

After the race, Charles Leclerc expressed his frustrations about the continued technical snags suffered by the team over the season. The Monegasque then talked about the team's decision to pit after the second Virtual Safety Car.

"Another DNF – it hurts… We really need to look into that," Leclerc

“I am more than frustrated, obviously,” said Leclerc. “The first stint in the beginning, we weren’t particularly strong, but towards the end of the stint on the medium I was catching back Checo [Perez] and then obviously there was the VSC [Virtual Safety Car], and we decided to take that opportunity to pit, and I think it was the right choice."

“We were in the lead of the race, I was managing the tyres well, we just had to manage the tyres and the race till the end, which I think was… we were definitely in the best position possible to do that. Another DNF – it hurts… We really need to look into that for it to not happen again,” he continued.
