Team India skipper Virat Kohli, who is known for his animated and in-your-face attitude on field, gave a fiery send-off to his English counterpart, Joe Root. The drama happened in the ongoing third Test match between India and England at the renamed Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Despite England electing to bat first after winning the toss, Indian bowlers were all over the guests, eventually bundling them out for 112. Notably, Ishant Sharma, who took the first wicket of the day, is playing his 100th Test match.

Kohli's animated gesture on Root's dismissal

England’s backbone, their skipper Joe Root, was flummoxed by a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery which caught him plumb in front of the stumps. Ashwin took the advantage of bowling round the wicket and the ball turned sharply to hit Root’s pads. It was a full pitched delivery and all Root had to do was play in front leg, but the batsman chose to go on back-foot and paid a heavy price for it. Root made another blunder as he took a review and eventually lost the review. Virat Kohli who was naturally pumped up, uttered the words “F**k off”. This was out of celebration and it may not be hinted towards Joe Root as the duo shares massive camaraderie and have spoken well about each other in the past.

World’s largest stadium renamed after Narendra Modi

The Motera cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, which was earlier known as Sardar Patel Stadium, has been renamed as Narendra Modi stadium ahead of the ongoing third Test between India and England. The refurbished venue has an increased seating capacity of up to 1,10,000. President Ram Nath Kovind and Home Minister Amit Shah were present on the auspicious occasion as the stadium hosted its first international game. Notably, this is also the second pink-ball test match in India. The first match was played in 2019 between India and Bangladesh.
