It was absolute carnage at the DY Patil Stadium as Lucknow and Kolkata took on each other in Match 66 of IPL 2022. Both teams showed no mercy on bowlers as a total of 418 runs were scored on the night. While batting first, LSG put on a mammoth 210-0 in their 20 overs on the back of Quinton de Kock's 140* and KL Rahul's 68*.
In reply to this, KKR batters also stepped up and put on a great fight to stay alive right till the end. Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer started the assault as the duo put on a quick 56-run partnership in just 27 balls. After Rana got out, Sam Billings and Iyer continued the aggressive intent and stitched a 66-run stand. LSG also stayed in the hunt with regular wickets.
But in the last three overs, a storm in the form of Rinku Singh blew away Lucknow as the southpaw batter aggregated 40 runs in just 15 balls. It seemed KKR will walk away with the game but an inhumane effort from Evin Lewis sent Rinku back and eventually, LSG won by 2 runs. With this win, they also became the second team to qualify for the playoffs.
While all of the drama was happening, LSG coach Gautam Gambhir was watching it from the dugout. He had a plain face throughout, which he usually does but when LSG won the game, even Gambhir could not control his emotions. He vented out his frustration and anger with a loud roar and animated clap.
