Gerard Pique is undoubtedly one of the best defenders the world of football has ever seen. He is indeed an FC Barcelona legend for what he has done and achieved with the club over the years. However, just like his old Spanish teammate Sergio Ramos, he does lose his cool sometimes on the field. Another example of the same was at display during a recent derby game between Barcelona and Espanyol on Sunday night.

It all happened in the stoppage time when Barca were 1-2 down, looking for a winner. Having stopped an attack from Espanyol, Gerard Pique (who was on a yellow card) came up with a robust challenge on one of the opponent players. The referee did not stop the play as he opined that it was a fair tackle but Espanyol player Nicolas Melamed was not too happy with Pique.

Just when Pique had passed the ball forward and was running ahead, Melamed pulled him back with a reckless off-the-ball move, getting himself a yellow card. However, this is when Pique completely lost his temper and went head to head with Melamed. And this was it for the referee!

He showed the second yellow to both the players, resulting in red card, with both of them receiving marching orders for their unacceptable behaviour.

Following the drama, there was more to follow as Luuk de Jong scored a late equalizer in 6th minute of extra time as it ended all square (2-2) at Cornella-El Prat. There was more controversy as Espanyol's Miguel Mornales, who was on the bench, also got a red card for showing dissent.

Earlier in the match, it was Barca's Pedri who had scored the first goal of match after just 74 seconds, before Sergi Darder and Raul de Tomas got their side into the lead. Unfortunately, a late de Jong goal denied Espanyol of what could have been their first La Liga win over Barca after 2006-07 season.
