Although making a comeback from an injury layoff can be a bit difficult, Shreyas Iyer has looked in great form in the few matches that he has got after the IPL 2021 resumption in UAE. Shreyas, who led the side to the finals last year, is playing as a specialist middle-order batter and that has allowed Delhi to prefer even three overseas players in the side after the injury of Marcus Stoinis.

The right-handed batter had injured himself during the home series against England earlier this year and was ruled out of the entire IPL 2021. However, as things turned out, the tournament was suspended midway and it gave an opportunity to Shreyas to complete his rehab from shoulder surgery and make his return to competitive cricket donning the Delhi Capitals jersey.

In his first match back from the injury itself against the SunRisers Hyderabad, Shreyas got to spend some time in the middle with the team chasing a low score. However, he remained unbeaten till the end and finished the run chase with 47* from 41 balls. More importantly, Iyer never looked ugly or rusty while playing his strokes and was holding his shape properly.

In a video doing the rounds on Internet, the Delhi Capitals trace Shreyas' usual training day to show what all goes behind his performances. While the camera followed him right from the team hotel to the ground, then Shreyas was spotted doing his warm-ups, changing the grips of the bat, and then a high-intensity throwdown followed by a net session.

In a particular instance when the former Delhi Capitals captain is asked his plan of action for the day, he responds "Go in the nets and smash some balls."

In 3 innings, Iyer has made 91 runs at an average of 45.50. His good touch coupled with disappointing performances from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan for Mumbai Indians has initiated some talks of a possible inclusion of Iyer into the T20 World Cup squad. For now, Shreyas has only been named as a standby player.
