F2-Crash

Like the Formula 1 race at Silverstone, the F2 feature race also witnessed a frightening crash as DAMS driver Roy Nissany ended up underneath Prema driver Dennis Hauger’s car following a second-lap scuffle. Nissany went wide on a turn before re-entering the track just in front of Hauger.

But as the Norwegian driver shifted inside to overtake, Nissany moved to the left forcing contact between the pair. That hit forced Hauger off the track and caused his right tire to puncture, pushing his car to skid towards the next turn. As Hauger went over the sausage kerb, his car launches off the ground and went straight into the front of Nissany’s car.

The halo once again proved a crucial safety measure, protecting Nissany’s head as Hauger’s car landed on top of him. After the race, the DAMS driver was handed a five-place grid penalty for the next FIA Formula 2 race.

The FIA released a statement addressing the incident which said that Nissany has “fully accepted blame” for the incident and was “wholly responsible.” The statement continued saying, “Having considered the matter extensively, the Stewards determined that Car 16 left the track at Turn 15 after making an error.”

“The Driver rejoined the course at the exit of the corner and rather than focusing on a safe merge into traffic, made an unpredictable and unsafe move to defend his position that initiated the contact with Car 1. Car 16 was wholly responsible for the collision and fully accepted blame for the incident.”
