While there were numerous reports of rift between the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, a contrary narrative was pushed in a recent episode of a Bengali quiz show hosted by the Prince of Kolkata. In an interesting incident which happed recently on the show, a contestant on the programme asked Ganguly to react to a picture of him with Kohli.

The picture is an old one and dates back to when the former cricketer wasn't head of the BCCI but had taken up an administration role with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). India were to play Sri Lanka at this venue and it was prior to this match that the two had got some time to strike a conversation. The same was confirmed by Ganguly in the episode of the quiz show aired on January 8, 2022.

Reacting to the picture, Ganguly simply stated: "He is my captain."

Notably, Virat has been recently sacked as the ODI skipper. While the Board President had told that he had asked Kohli to continue to remain as the T20I skipper and when the latter denied, they were left with no option but to go to Rohit Sharma, the 33-year-old, who continues to remain at the helm in Test match cricket, made a contrary claim.

He said at a press conference prior to the team's departure that his decision to step down as the leader in the shortest format was dubbed a progressive one and he was never asked to continue as the skipper in T20Is.

Later chief of the selection committee Chetan Sharma backed Ganguly's claim by saying that Kohli was indeed informed about the Board's plan. Kohli though is yet to address the press after the selection committee chief's statement.

While there is no clarity yet, one thing is certain that there is indeed some communication gap between the two parties which isn't for the team going forward. Fans as well as the members of the team management would hope that all things are sorted out with only the best interest of Indian cricket in mind.
