With Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed fighting brilliantly at the end of Day 4, India had all to do on the final day. With the first session starting, both the England openers managed to register commendable half-centuries against their name, but it was the man of the moment, Shardul Thakur who fetched the first wicket for the visitors.

After which, the English batsman found it hard to hold onto their guard and wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, India managed to stamp their authority early on from the second session, dismissing Ollie Pope and Moeen Ali among others as England lost their entire middle-order in quick succession.

But with Joe Root keeping his calm and composure once again against all odds, it was Shardul Thakur who once again took the center stage by dismissing the English captain for a hard-fought 36.

Given that India had the chance to make use of the second new ball, victory only seemed a matter of time for the away side. Umesh Yadav managed to clean the entire line-up of tail-enders as India registered an emphatic win to take a 2-1 lead in this Test series.
