As India went up against Scotland on Friday, it was always going to be a tricky game for them as they needed to win, and that too by a big margin. Such is the situation they currently find themselves in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they live by the edge of the sword on every other day, post their two back-to-back losses early in Super 12. However, the modern Indian side just love to prosper in this kind of complicated situations and they needed something magical in Dubai on a special day.
What was special about November 5 was the fact that Indian captain Virat Kohli was celebrating his 33rd birthday. The charismatic leader is playing his last T20I tournament as the national team's captain which is why it was a much more crucial game for him. He needed some luck to go his way and the cricket gods finally helped him win the much-awaited toss before the start of the match.
Kohli wins toss and match on his 33rd birthday
Having lost all the 3 coin flips in the tournament, King Kohli finally kicked off the match on a positive note and there was no turning back ever since. He marshalled his troops brilliantly in the match as India bowled out Scotland on 85 runs. In reply, the target was chased down in 6.3 overs with Kohli (from non-striker's end) watching Suryakuamar Yadav hit the winning six.
India improved their net run rate significantly and went past NRR of Afghanistan and New Zealand to give themselves an outside chance of going through to semis. It was indeed a big win for the side which kept them alive in the tournament and it certainly deserved some celebration, especially with the birthday boy being their captain.
Team India celebrate in style
After the match, Suryakumar Yadav shared a story on his Instagram account which showed Virat Kohli completely covered with cake. It seemed like the other Indian players and staff had given their skipper a nice cake smashing just moments before the video was taken by SKY.
But Kohli could still be seen smiling and posing for the camera behind the cake and why not, India had registered a brilliant win on his birthday. The expressions of other players certainly showed that everyone had a great time.
