While cricket continues to entertain fans worldwide, there are risks involved as is the case with most other professional sport at the highest level. Cricketers can suffer serious injuries on the cricket field which can lead to temporary or permanent damage and in extreme cases it may even be fatal.

Despite there being very strict regulation regarding the safety of players in cricket these days, there are cases of injury and Ish Sodhi would consider himself a lucky man seemingly getting away with anything major as of now after the ball hit him on the head. The incident question happened in the match between New Zealand and Namibia.

In the first ball of the 12th over which Sodhi was bowling from over the wicket, the delivery which Namibia batter David Wiese tried to hit with all his might. It was a powerful strike from the batter and the spinner tried to catch the ball perhaps as a reflex, the ball did not stick in his hand and instead burst through his hands and hit him on the forehead.

At the outset, it looks like a minor injury as the bowler completed his over and was even wearing a smile shortly after the incident when the physios came running to check on him. However, there will be more clarity after some medical examinations are done.

As far as the match is concerned, the BlackCaps registered a 52-run win in this game and now only need to beat Afghanistan in their last Super 12 match to progress to the semifinals. However, if they stumble there and fall to a defeat then all the three sides -Afghanistan, New Zealand as well as India will be in with a chance to go through to the final four, provided the Men in Blue beat Scotland and Namibia.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have already secured qualification for the semis from Group 2 after registering wins in each of their four Super 12 fixtures. England have also joined them in the knock out stage but both teams are waiting to know who will be their opponents for the semifinal match.
