Ever since Ishan Kishan has entered the Indian cricket circuit, there have been parallels drawn between him and former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Since both hail from Jharkhand and are wicket-keepers who are explosive with bat, fans often try to see a young version of MSD in talented Kishan. Well, during the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka, everyone got to witness a bit more than just a mere glimpse.
The left-handed batsman returned to form in some style and played a breathtaking 89-run knock off 56 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. The innings also included a sequence of events when Kishan smashed a hattrick of boundaries.
However, there was one hit during his knock which became a talking point on social media. Kishan played a mini helicopter shot for a fantastic boundary off the bowling of Dasun Shanaka, which got the netizens nostalgic as it used to be an MSD special at one point of time.
However, the only difference was the fact that when MS Dhoni used to play the helicopter shot, it used to mostly end up as six only. Talking about the similarities between the two players from Jharkhand, there was another interesting stat on the day of coincidence.
Exactly 9 years back, on 24 February 2013, captain cool had scored 224 runs against Australia, which was the highest Test Score by an Indian wicketkeeper in longest format.
Today, on 24 February 2022, Ishan Kishan's 89-run knock against Sri Lanka turned out to be the highest ever T20I score by an Indian wicketkeeper in the shortest format of the game.
