Yorkshire and Lancashire played out a grueling, high scoring draw at the Headingley in Leeds. The Lancs started off the match with a towering double hundred by Keaton Jennings and a 104 by Steven Croft. Then Yorkshire retaliated as Joe Root scored a scintillating 147 but other batters couldn’t support him.

Hence the Yorks folded for 379 in 126.5 overs and were invited to bat again as Lancashire inflicted the follow on. Similarly imitating their first innings, Carnegie flattered as they lost early wickets. Joe Root once again had the responsibility to rescue his team but was denied by his England teammate.

James Anderson cleaned up Root for just four runs with beautiful reverse swinging delivery that after pitching rocked back into the wickets. After that Anderson delivery, only one stump was standing as the former England captain walked back in disappointment.

“I’ve said before that our Achilles heel has been our catching,” Gibson

Reacting to the draw, Yorkshire coach Otis Gibson talked about how the team had an upper hand in several sessions of the game but is happy with the draw. He says, “Over the course of the four days, they dominated it for large parts of the game.”

“We’re happy to walk away with an honourable draw, but it’s been a tough four days for us. We just had a little chat in the dressing room, and even though we were dominated we didn’t feel at any stage like we were going to lose the game,” he continued.

Gibson also addressed the dropped catches throughout their campaign. He said, “I’ve said before that our Achilles heel has been our catching. That cost us dearly. We dropped Keaton on two and he got 240. He took advantage and made us pay. Brooky has been exceptional all year, and everybody is very excited when Joe comes back to play for us.”

He also praised Joe Root for his performance and said, “He’s the best batter in the world for a reason. Even though they had 500 on the board or whatever if you’ve paid your money to sit and watch Joe bat – especially yesterday, the way he played – you felt like you’ve walked away and got your money’s worth.”
