San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar was taken off the field on a stretcher after a harrowing collision with teammate C.J. Abrams during the fifth inning of Thursday's game against the San Francisco Giants. After one out at the start of fifth inning of the Padres’ first game against the Giants, Tommy La Stella hit a pop-up to short left field.

Jurickson Profar and Abrams both sprinted out to the ball. Here Abrams successfully caught the ball and hence Profar slid on the grass. But Abrams was unable to avoid him, and the 21-year-old’s left knee hit straight Profar's jaw. The 29-year-old’s head snapped back, and he fibbed on the field for sometime as he was being treated by the Padres’ athletic trainers.

Jurickson Profar eventually got up and attempted to walk off the field. But unfortunately, he fell to the ground on the edge of the infield dirt near second base. He was then carried off on a stretcher and Profar pumped his right fist to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd and appeared to be smiling. He was taken to the UC San Diego Medical Center hospital which is about five miles north of Petco Park.

The Padres' released a statement addressing the incident that said, “Update from the clubhouse: Jurickson Profar has been transported to UC San Diego Health for further evaluation. We will provide additional updates when available.”

Talking of the game, San Diego went on to win the game 2-1 in the 10th inning, thanks to brilliant performances by Manny Machado and Joe Musgrove.
