The CPL 2021 final produced some thrilling cricket in first half of the innings as Saint Lucia Kings posted a total of 145/6 in 20 overs. It was an exciting start to the match as Andre Fletcher was dismissed early in the innings, courtesy a brilliant effort in the field by Sheldon Cottrell. Mark Deyal was also dismissed at a paltry score and the batting side were in a state of bother at that time.

However, Rahkeem Cornawall (43 off 32) and Roston Chase (43 off 40) made some valuable contributions to get the Kings back into the contest. But they still needed someone to finish off the innings on a high and score some quick runs to get them past the 150-run mark to put up a fight. David Wiese and Tim David  were expected to play the role of finishers but both of them failed to make an impact on Wednesday.

Keemo Paul plays a fiery cameo towards the end

With all the power hitters back in the dugout, the responsibility lied on the shoulders of Keemo Paul to add some much-needed runs to the total. This is when he targeted the penultimate over of the innings which was being bowled by Dominic Drakes.

The left-arm pacer began the over with a wide delivery outside the off but Paul had already decided to attack no matter where the ball is bowled. He smoked the ball over the mid-wicket boundary before stepping out and hitting a huge six straight down the wicket.

Paul piled on the misery when he directed a wide full toss over the third man region to complete hattrick of sixes in the over. Drakes bounced back eventually as he bowled two dot deliveries before Paul took the run off final ball to take over the strike for the last over of the innings. The 23-year-old smashed another huge six in the 20th over off Naseem Shah before finally getting caught by J Carter.
