The super-exciting ICC Women’s World Cup is nearing its business end as the semi-finals have begun. The all-dominant Australian team led by Meg Lanning entered the final after defeating the West Indies Women by 157 runs. Like the first semi-final, the second knockout game got to a similar start as England posted a 293-run total against the South Africa Woman.

The English opener Daniel Wyatt was the chief architect in this colossal score as she scored 129 runs from 125 balls with 12 fours and a strike rate of 103.20. After a quiet group stage, Wyatt played an incredible knock to put the Three Lions in a commanding position. But the 30-year-old could have possibly scored a lot more if it wasn’t for Lizelle Lee who held on to a splendid catch at the short third man position.

Lee ran to her right and covered some serious distance as she sent back Wyatt after an incredible innings. The shot looked tired as she was batting from the first ball of the match. Other than Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley also scored a crucial 60 from 72 balls while Sophie Ecclestone finished the innings with a 24 off 9 balls cameo.

Protean bowling trident

The South Africa Women’s team had dominated the group stage of the World Cup as they lost only one game to Australia. The Proteas had a well-balanced team with crucial performances from an array of players. But their biggest strength, throughout the tournament, has been their bowling led by Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka. This bowling triplet has together picked 38 wickets in the eight games for the World Cup.
