During a badminton group match between Malaysia and Jamaica, a rare incident took place when Jamaica national champion Samuel Rickets damaged his shoes in the middle of the men’s singles game against Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the Commonwealth Games 2022. However, the Malaysian coach came up to Rickets’ rescue as he offered his pair of shoes to the Jamaican badminton player.
Samuel Rickets lost the tie 21-12, 21-16 but would be grateful to the Malaysian coach Hendrawan for his supportive gesture. The Jamaican partnered with Joel Angus in the men’s doubles and wore the same shoes but eventually lost the doubles tie to the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 7-21, 11-21.
