With the second leg of IPL resuming in a month, franchises have started preparing for the same. Amidst all, 23-year-old Mayank Markande, who has already established himself as an impressive spinner, is looking to learn to play lofted shots to help his team with the bat in the death overs. He could be seen practising the same during Rajasthan Royals’ recent net session.
The franchise took to social media to post a video of Markande going for big hits in the nets and executing them with perfection. Meanwhile, his teammates could be heard appreciating him for his shots. Captioning the post, RR said, “Mayank’s making a mark with his bat too." In the video, the young spinner could be seen showcasing his batting skills in the nets and one can expect some action from his bat as well in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

Markande, undoubtedly, is a standout bowler for the franchise and with his budding batting skills, he can confirm his presence in the Playing 11 of the Royals. With the availability of international stalwarts like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes being dicey, the 23-year-old can make the most of this opportunity by stepping up as a bowling all-rounder for the franchise.
Mayank Markande’s run so far in IPL
Mayank Markande made his debut in the 2018 IPL edition for Mumbai Indians and strikingly impressed everyone by picking up 15 wickets with his best being 4 for 23. However, the young gun didn’t get to play much in the forthcoming editions of IPL, featuring in only 3 games in 2019, and playing none in the 2020 edition of IPL. It’s to be noted that Markande is yet to play a game for Rajasthan Royals in 2021, and his budding batting skills added to hit bowling exuberance will definitely double his chances for making it to the final XI.
Rajathan Royals are currently placed 5th in the points table after registering 3 wins out of the seven games played in the first leg of IPL 2021. The side will aim to climb up the table when the tournament resumes in UAE.
