Lionel Messi lit up Paris with a Thunder Bolt goal in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Paris Saint-Germain. With Barcelona trailing 1-0 (5-1 on aggregate) in the second leg, Messi gave the Barcelona fans something to cheer for, netting an unstoppable shot from 25 yards in the 37th minute to draw even with the Ligue 1 side.

However, the ecstasy tuned into agony pretty soon when the striker had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Keylor Navas on the stroke of halftime, his first miss in the Champions League since 2015. The Catalan side eventually lost by 5-2 on aggregate as they bowed down from the tournament.

End of an era for Messi and Ronaldo?

It is the first time since 2005 that neither Messi nor his rival Cristiano Ronaldo have reached the last eight of the competition, following Juventus' exit on Tuesday. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been linked with transfers this summer. While Ronaldo is linked with his former Premier League club Manchester United, Messi is rumoured to be inclined towards moving to PSG.

Another record in Mbappe’s kitty

Kylian Mbappe was again a star for the PSG as his 30th-minute penalty gave the Ligue 1 side the lead. Mbappe, who scored a hattrick at Camp Nou in the first leg, registered his name in the records book as the 22-year-old broke Messi's record as the youngest player to 25 Champions League goals.
