England all-rounder Moeen Ali warmed the bench on Friday evening as England defeated India by 8 wickets in the first T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The world number one T20I side played like the world leaders as they registered a comprehensive win to take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series.

Asked to bat first on a brown-soil surface, India had a disastrous start as their top-order failed miserably. While Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 4, KL Rahul scored just a single run. In addition, Virat Kohli also departed for a duck and the Men in Blue could not quite recover from the early setbacks and only managed a below-par 124/7 in their quota of 20 overs.

Shreyas Iyer was the lone Indian batter who looked in control and offered some resistance to the English pace attack. The Delhi Capitals captain scored 67 off 48 balls to help India to a respectable total. However, the England batsmen were never quite challenged with that total on the board. The visiting side chased it down inside 16 overs by losing just two wickets. The Three Lions' openers added 72 runs for the first wicket as England completed a dominant win.

Ali ignored by Archer in victory celebration

After missing out from the Playing XI, Ali was even ignored in the team celebrations. After the game, Player of the Match Jofra Archer headed to shake hands with Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali extended his arms too. Ali thought that Archer would shake hands with him as well but the speedster hugged Rashid and ignored Ali, who had extended his arms expectantly. It should be noted though that the act seemed completely unintentional.
