The third Test match between Australia and Pakistan has been incredibly intense. The contest between ball and bat has been at-par as the host have to chase a target of 351 in the second innings. The Aussies had a slow start to their innings as they managed to get the first wicket after 77 runs.

But then they have managed to pick wickets at regular intervals. One of those dismissals was of wicketkeeper – batter Mohammed Rizwan for a five-ball duck. The 29-year-old faced a lethal inswinging yorker that smashed into his front boot even before he could get his bat down.

The umpire gave his decision as out and Rizwan immediately started walking. As he crossed his partner and captain Babar Azam at the other end, he didn’t discuss anything and continued walking. But later it was found that the impact of the ball was just outside off, which would have reversed the decision to not out.

‘Walking’ in cricket has been a huge topic of discussion. But former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist had a pretty clear stance as he was known as one of the ‘Walkers’ on the cricketing circuit.

While expressing his opinion on the subject in his book Walking to Victory, he wrote, “It was a really weird sensation to go against the grain of what 99 per cent of cricketers do these days, and what we’ve been doing for our whole careers.”

“Of course, the guys back in the viewing room were a bit stunned at what I’d done. Flabbergasted, really, that I’d do it in a World Cup semi. While I sat there, thinking about it and being asked about it, I kept going back to the fact that, well, at the end of the day, I had been honest with myself”, said Gilchrist.

“I felt it was time that players made a stand to take back responsibility for the game. I was at ease with that. The more I thought about it, the more settled I became with what I’d done. You did it for the right reasons”, he added.
