Tokyo Olympic Gold-winning javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has made a great start to a brand new seasn. He recently clinched his first top-3 finish at the prestigious Diamond League by creating a new national record. The 24-year-old surprised everyone with his stunning throw of 89.94m on his first attempt, as he bettered his earlier national record of 89.30m.

Neeraj Chopra missed the 90m mark by a whisker as the top position at the podium was clinched by Grenada's Anderson Peters who registered a throw that clocked 90.31m in his third attempt of the evening. Earlier, Chopra outplayed the top-seeded Anderson Peters in the Kurotone Games in Finland, where the Indian took the gold medal. And another time at the Paavo Nurmi Games where Peters finished third.

While Neeraj Chopra is winning hearts with his superb performance, a new video that is doing the rounds on social media has also forced people to laud the javelin thrower for being a gentleman off the field.

In the viral video, Neeraj Chopra can be seen taking blessings from an elderly fan by touching his feet after he is done meeting with his fans. The video shows Neeraj taking time for his fans who requested him for pictures as the Olympic champion humbly agrees for clicks. After this, he shakes hands with people to bid goodbye and bows down to touch the feet of an elderly man for blessings.

The Twitter user shared the video with the caption, “So down to earth this person @Neeraj_chopra1. Took a blessing from an elderly fan. That speaks volumes. Love you." In a couple of hours, the video has garnered over 4K likes on Twitter and users are applauding the javelin thrower for his simplicity.

Earlier, Indian Sports minister Anurag Thakur hailed Neeraj Chopra for his outstanding performance at Diamond League as he took to Twitter and shared an appreciation post from his Twitter handle. He wrote, "Olympic Champion @Neeraj_chopra1 sets the new National Record and Personal Best at 2022 #StockholmDL with a throw of 89.94m, finishing 2nd Take a look at the record-breaking throw!"
