  • Neeraj Chopra became the first athlete from India to clinch a gold at Olympics in track & field event.

Neeraj Chopra is now a household name. While there were people who knew his potential before the start of 2021, by the end of it all, the results are for everyone to see. His gold-medal winning effort at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games earlier in the year ended the country’s century-long wait for a medal at the Olympics and while the country would have celebrated even silver or a bronze, Chopra gifted India a historic gold, something the nation of a billion-plus has been starved of.

In a recent video doing the rounds on internet, Chopra can be seen training school kids in Gujarat which happens to be the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking notice of Chopra interacting with the young kids, Prime Minister hailed Neeraj’s efforts and said that it was commendable how the star athlete was taking time out to motivate the young kids on sports and fitness.

Earlier, Chopra himself had taken to Twitter to share his initiative.

“Had a wonderful day at @sanskardham_In interacting with students, playing sports with them and speaking to them about the importance of exercise and diet in fitness. It’s great to see a school that offers such a balance of sports & academics. @PMOIndia @ianuragthakur,” he tweeted.

“This is a great initiative by @Neeraj_chopra1, to go among young students and motivate them on sports and fitness. Such efforts will increase curiosity towards sports and exercising,” he wrote in his first tweet.

“Great moments,” he remarked on the video of Chopra talking to the students.

“This thread will make you happy. Let us keep up the momentum and inspire our youth to shine on the games field,” PM Modi wrote in his third tweet.

Earlier, Chopra had taken to announce that he had resumed his training after the Olympic glory followed by the frenzy that brought an early end to his 2021 season. The 23-year-old is eyeing a podium finish at the Commonwealth and the Asian Games in 2022. Moreover, he also has the hallowed 90m mark in mind which he would want to breach in the times to come.
