Philadelphia Union ran a riot against DC United as they registered a 7-0  win at the Subaru Park. The home team started their goal rush early in the ninth minute with a clinical finish by Alejandro Bedoya. This opened the flood gates as the Union netted five goals in the first half.

But the best goal of this lot was by Julián Carranza who scored an acrobatic bicycle goal in the 21st minute. The ball came into the middle from a corner kick which was miss-hit towards Carranza by Jack Elliot. The ball looped up and Carranza smashed it into the goal with a  bicycle kick.

Philly coach Jim Curtin credited his players for their record-breaking victory over DC. He said, “We weren't perfect by any stretch, but I'd say the first half is about as close as you can get. If you were to say Philadelphia Union soccer: Keep a clean sheet, don't give up a shot on goal and also put the other team under pressure and score relentlessly – that's us at our best.”

“So, full credit to the players. They've worked very hard. It's a group that's had a lot of ties and a lot of frustration, but it's a group that also doesn't get beat. We have a bunch of winners in this group, and tonight was a good reward for them, a good reward for the fans and I think also a message to the league that we are a good defensive team, but we can also score goals,” Curtin added.
