In a shocking turn of events, Ranjit Bajaj, the owner of Minerva Punjab FC, has made stern allegations on All India Football Federation of India (AIFF) for not allowing Delhi FC to participate in AFC Futsal Club Championship 2022, scheduled to be held between 3-14 August in the United Arab Emirates. This year, the 2022 championship organized by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will have its 11th edition of the International Futsal Club Championship.

In the video, Bajaj informed that AIFF has decided not to send the Women’s national team to participate in Futsal Championship where India was supposed to take part. “As AIFF forgot to send the entry for AFC National team, now they are claiming that they can’t even send Delhi FC’s entry to participate in AFC Futsal Championship,” said Bajaj.

According to Bajaj, Delhi FC has the maiden opportunity to represent the nation in the highly reputed competition. “Delhi FC has earned the opportunity to participate in the Futsal Championship by being the national champion. Urging everyone’s intervention, Bajaj requests Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to consider the matter as AFI’s top brass is not nurturing the game, instead of spoiling it due to their mindset. Bajaj also requested that the game needs a quick change in ground zero as “national federation does not have the right heart to promote the game.”

The tournament, which is going to schedule for later this year, was earlier supposed to take place in 2020 but due to several reasons and mainly Covid, AFC on 10 September 2020, announced that the 2020 tournament would be cancelled, and the United Arab Emirates would instead host the next event in 2021. However, the same fate was waiting for the tournament, as yet again, AFC rescheduled the dates, and on 18 March 2021, the AFC notified that the contest would be cancelled again for the 2021 edition, and the UAE would remain as the host for 2022 edition of the tournament. A total of 16 teams are expected to take part in the tournament. Nagoya Oceans are the defending champions, having won the title in 2019.
