Leeds United edged out Brentford FC to stay afloat in the Premier League after a dismal season in England’s top-flight football league. The Whites finally broke ahead after a quiet first half as Brazilian winger Raphinha was brought down for a penalty by Brentford keeper Raya. The 25-year-old aced the spot as Leeds was up 1-0 on the brink to avoid relegation.

These celebrations were short-lived as the Bees levelled the score as Sergi Canos headed the ball in the 77th minute from Wissa’s curling cross. But just moments later Canos received his first yellow card for taking off his shirt during the goal celebration and then was sent out as he fouled Raphinha.

17 minutes later in extra time, Leeds’ winger Jack Harrison hit a half-volley to make the score 2-1 and guarantee Premier League football at Ellan road. As the Peacock fans raised the roof in West London, Raphinha in the euphoric furore jumped into the away fans section and celebrated the win.

After the game, Jack Harrison reacted to their rollercoaster season and his goal in extra time. He said, “Getting the first goal and that being offside - then trying to get that second one was tough. Fortunately enough it went in at the end - exhilarating game, up and down, but we've been like that all season - and now we've come out on top.”

“The injured players still come and support - out injured and operations, but somehow they still find a way to get to the game and support the team. It's a credit to the group to keep pushing when they're facing the toughest of times.”
