Rare video of Dinesh Karthik bowling

While wicketkeepers are rarely seen handing their gloves to another fielder and bowling, there have been instances on the cricket field when such a scenario has happened. Former Australian great Adam Gilchrist did it once in his career, that too in his last game for the Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings (then known as Kings XI Punjab).

Similarly, former India captain MS Dhoni also managed to roll his arms over time and again. Dhoni even has an international wicket to his credit. While wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is known for his fielding skills apart from his wicketkeeping, a rare video of DK bowling and picking up wickets has also emerged. The video is seemingly from the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes game in 2011 against Pakistan.

Notably, the 2011 season of the said competition had taken place at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong with as many as 12 teams taking part in the competition including India. It was in this tournament in the match against Pakistan where Karthik bowled a couple of overs. He also managed to take two wickets as the Pakistani batters did not appear quite as convincing against his off-breaks. DK scalped the wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Sohail Tanvir in just one over, giving away 12 runs.

While Sharjeel was caught in the deep trying to go for the maximum, Tanvir edged one straight to the keeper.

DK, who enjoyed a successful commentary stint with Sky Sports in the United Kingdom, is gearing up for the second phase of Indian Premier League 2021. He will be donning the Kolkata Knight Riders jersey yet again, who have a mountain to climb ahead of them at this stage. They have lost five of their seven matches so far and the Men in Purple would look to stitch a few wins together to secure a place in the Playoffs and then take their campaign forward.

The Eoin Morgan-led side would resume their campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 20.
