The fourth Test match between England and India at the Oval is well and truly alive. While Team India had set the home team a challenging target of 368 runs, they would have hoped to take the 10 wickets quickly with a little over a day remaining in the Test match. However, the English openers put on 100 runs against India in the fourth innings of a Test match for the first time since 1964 to take the Test match to an interesting turn where all results seemed possible.

But a wicket in the first over in the innings from Shardul Thakur followed by a run-out before Lunch on Day 5 increased India's chances of win just that little bit. However, it was Ravindra Jadeja's dismissal of Haseeb Hameed that has well and truly titled the balance again in favour of the Indians. Jaddu got the third ball of the 62nd over to get that extra bit of purchase from the rough as the ball spun from the leg-stump line to rattle the top of the off-stump of the right-handed Hameed.

The dismissal not only allowed India to come on the front foot on the final day but has perhaps taken out England's win out of the equation with them needing over 220 runs in about 55 overs. Soon after Jadeja's wicket, Jasprit Bumrah also removed the new man in Ollie Pope for 2 to make England's scoreboard read 4 down for 146.

While the wicket seemingly appears more or less decent to bat on, the ghosts of the Lord's test would be fresh in the memories of the English batsmen. At the Lord's test, India had declared after Lunch on Day 5 and then bowled out England in less than two session to register a memorable win. While the home team had bounced back strongly at Leeds to win by an innings and more, they find themselves in a difficult situation despite bowling India out for 191 in the first innings.

The five-match series currently stands at 1-1 and the winner of the Test will be assured of not losing the Test series with one Test to go.
