While India did not have the best of the starts on Day 1 of the rescheduled fifth Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja's stand for the sixth wicket kept India in the game. Pant particularly was impressive taking the attack to the opposition and eventually reaching his fifth Test match hundred off just 89 balls.

Post the hundred, Rishabh Pant had a rather emotional celebration in the middle, trying to soak at the moment while hugging his partner Jadeja. The left-handed got to the landmark after a quick double off the bowling of Stuart Broad.

Rishabh Pant's 146 off 111 balls along with Jadeja's unbeaten 84 has meant India end the day at 338/7 despite losing their first five wickets for under 100 runs. When the play resumes on Day 2, Mohammed Shami will carry walk out to back along with Jadeja and look to add as many runs on the board as possible.

James Anderson and Matthew Pots were the pick of the bowlers for the Three Lions on Day 1 of the Edgbaston Test with Anderson scaling 3 wickets and Potts getting two wickets including that of Virat Kohli. The hosts would like to wrap up the Indian tail quickly when play commences on Saturday.
