The match no. 17 in IPL 2021 started off quite dramatically as a lot of action happened in the first three overs of the game. KL Rahul pulled off a surprise as he handed the new ball to Moises Henriques to bowl the first over. The move nearly paid off as Rohit Sharma was adjudged out by the umpire only before a successful review saved the MI captain.

Hitman unhappy with umpire's decision

On the fifth delivery of the first over, Rohit tried to play a glance shot with the ball moving down the leg. However, the 33-year-old failed to take advantage of that and the ball nudged him before going to hands of KL Rahul. Surprisingly, umpire Shamsuddin raised his finger and Hitman immediately called for DRS. As he walked down to Quinton de Kock, he had a few angry words to say while pointing towards the umpire.

Rohit survives few scares

As the replays showed, there was a flat line when the ball passed the bat and the umpire had to reverse the decision. However, this was not the only close call that the MI skipper survived in the early part of the game. While there was a run-out opportunity that he survived in the first over, there was another caught behind appeal which the umpire turned down.

It will be very interesting to see if the MI captain can shrug off this patchy phase of the game on a difficult wicket at Chepauk to guide his side to a competitive total on Friday.
