While the limelight often remains on some other guy in Indian cricket, more often than not Shikhar Dhawan has done his job silently. He is chill, dons a smile irrespective of the situation and in recent times has also upped his social media game but that by no means implies he is not a serious cricketer.

The Indian captain for the West Indies ODI series has been a superb performer for the Men in Blue and showed that once again in the ODI series opener on Friday. The left-hander scored 97 runs from 99 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 sixes. While he looked set to reach his 18th One-Day hundred, it required a piece of brilliance on the field from the home team to get him out.

In the fourth ball of the 34th over with India in a comfortable position, having scored over 200 and lost only one wicket, Dhawan tried to push the accelerator and wanted to follow the six of the previous ball with a boundary that would have brought up his hundred.

However, Shamarh Brooks, placed at backward point, got to his right and completed a brilliant one-handed catch that was timed sweetly from the bat. That brought an end to Dhawan's innings with Gudakesh Motie getting a wicket to his credit. He later removed Shreyas Iyer on 54 and finished his quota of 10 overs with figures of 2 for 54.
