The Kolkata Knight Riders haven't got off to an ideal start in their IPL 2022 encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. While they did not win the toss and were asked to bat first, the Knight Riders have already lost two wickets within the powerplay. In a positive though, their captain Shreyas Iyer was given a life.

In the fourth ball of the fifth over being bowled by Mohammed Siraj, the KKR skipper cleared his front leg as he was attempting a big shot on the off side. However, the batter was cramped for room by the pacer and could only manage to miscue the shot back to the bowler. While it was a difficult catch for Siraj on his follow-through, he could have taken it.

However, as it turned out, Iyer could not make the best of the dropped chance and departed soon after. Although the intent of the Kolkata batters was clear and they wanted to go for the big shots irrespective of what happened in the wickets section, unfortunately, their chances went straight to hand.

The ex-Delhi Capitals captain also tried to clear the long-on fielder off the bowling of Wanindu Hasaranga but could not the desired distance and the catch was taken by Faf du Plessis. Consequently, Kolkata's situation has gone from bad to worse in the first innings of this match.

Notably, Kolkata came into this game on the back of a win over Chennai Super Kings while Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to defend 205 runs in their first match against Punjab Kings.
