The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 unlike its previous two editions was successfully completed without any hiccup. While there were a few cases of COVID-19 infection, they were managed well and no matches had to be postponed. A couple of fixtures were shifted from the MCA Stadium in Pune to Mumbai but only as a precautionary measure.

The event came to a close on Sunday after the Gujarat Titans completed a convincing 7-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the night came to an end when BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah handed over the trophy to the winning captain Hardik Pandya, a big blunder was brought to light by fans watching the game on television.

Former New Zealand cricketer turned broadcaster Simon Doull while starting off with the post-match ceremony made a huge blunder. Doull mistakenly said the name of the venue as “Narendra Singh Modi” Stadium which was noticed by fans watching the ceremony attentively.

In no time, the video of Doull’s mistake started doing the rounds on social media with many suggesting that the mistake could probably cost him big. A few pointed out that the broadcaster was used to saying “Mahendra Singh Dhoni” which could be the reason he added “Singh” after “Narendra.”

Talking about the presentation ceremony, it was ruled by none other than Jos Buttler who not only clinched the Orange Cup as he finished as the leading run-getter of the tournament but bagged 6 out of the 12 end of the season awards on offer. These include Most Valuable Player, Most Fours, Most SIxes, Powerplayer of the Season and Game Changer of the season.

“Exceeded all my expectation for the season apart from today. A big congratulations to Hardik and his team, they are the deserving champions. My goal is to play for my time and try reacting to the situation. I had huge trust in everyone in the team even though we came up short today,” Buttler said after the match.

“I have lost plenty of finals in my career but today has been a fantastic occasion. It has been an absolute privilege to play in front of a big crowd. [I would ask my team-mates to] use this hurt to achieve more in future,” he added.
