The ongoing 2nd Test between England and New Zealand saw much-needed resilience from the visitors on the first day. After being invited to bat first, New Zealand lost four wickets at regular intervals but still managed to keep the run flow intact and score 300 plus runs by the third session. For England, veteran pacer James Anderson and skipper Ben Stokes picked two wickets each to keep the hosts in the game.

While, both the teams provided a lot of action in the middle to keep the spectators’ attention on the game, a couple of incidents, involving spectators, hogged the limelight on the first day of the 2nd Test. The first incident took place during the second session of the match when Devon Conway was caught behind off the inside edge by Ben Foakes off James Anderson.

As the wicket fell, the home crowd went into ecstasy and welcomed the dismissal with a huge roar, an old man who seemed to be taking a nap was awkwardly awakened from his slumber. However, a few minutes later, another incident caught everyone’s attention when New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell’s lofted straight drive off Jack Leach flew back over the boundary rope and directly landed in the beer of a spectator, with a splash. Check out the video of both incidents down below.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell and wicket-keeper batter Tom Blundell steadied the innings for New Zealand on Day 1. Having won the first match on the back of Joe Root’s impressive 26th career century, Ben Stokes is looking to sweep the three-match Test series against New Zealand. Notably, Tom Latham is leading the Kiwis after Kane Williamson tested positive for COVID-19.
