Umran Malik has some serious pace and the young pacer has shown it to the world time and again in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Malik has bowled the top five fastest deliveries in IPL 2022. The pacer from Jammu and Kashmir had also expressed his desire to touch the 155 kph mark.
He came closer to his dream quite a few times against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as he bowled two deliveries with a speed of 154 kph. The SRH speedster kept improving and reaped the rewards of his hard work as he not only touched his dream delivery speed mark but bowled the second fastest delivery in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In SRH’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC), Umran Malik bowled a delivery at a speed of 157 kph. In the 20th over of the DC innings, Malik bowled a length delivery to Rovman Powell and the speed gun showed it to have been bowled at 157 kph. Gun speed but no luck for Umran Malik!
Although the young pacer has shown great potential and gun speed while bowling in IPL 2022, he has erred a lot in his line and length this season. And this is the reason for his expensive spells. Against Delhi Capitals as well, Malik conceded 52 runs in his four overs. He also remained wicketless. This was the second consecutive game where Malik conceded more the 40 runs in his four overs. In SRH’s game against CSK, he had given 48 runs and taken no wicket in the designated four overs.
Barring a few games, this has been the story for Mailk all season. He has taken fifteen wickets but has leaked runs as well. His economy rate in IPL 2022 is close to 9 runs per over (8.92).
