Surya Kumar Yadav is the new sensation in Indian cricket. The terrific batsman has been in magical touch against West Indies in the ongoing white-ball series and something similar was at display on Sunday. When Rohit Sharma-led side looked to make a perfect clean sweep, West Indies bowlers posted a formidable challenge to hosts in the 1st innings of 3rd T20I.

However, Suryakumar Yadav (65 off 31), batting in middle-order, played a match-saving knock with Venkatesh Iyer (35* off 19) to rescue India’s innings from 93-4 in 13.5 overs to 184-5 after 20 overs of the game.

The batter came to bat after Ishan Kishan got dismissed to Roston Chase, reducing the team’s total to 66-3 in 9.4 overs. Surya joined Rohit Sharma to steady India’s ship but little he knew that Hitman would soon depart. Sharma was dismissed by Dominic Drakes in the 14th over of the match and when it appeared that India would bundle out and collapse, the blistering partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav turned the game around in favour of home side.

The duo added 91 runs together in the last 6 overs while playing shots all around. In no time, Surya completed his fifth half-century in T20I, earning appreciation from all-around. The most exciting factor of his innings was his incredible stroke-making, where he treated spectators with some unorthodox shots. But, it was his celebration after reaching the milestone which stole the show.

After completing his half-century with a glorious shot over the covers boundary, Surya raised his bat towards the dugout to acknowledge the appreciation from his teammates.

Realizing the importance of Surya’s knock, the head coach Dravid didn’t shy away from giving the batter standing ovation from the dugout while captain Rohit Sharma was also seen clapping with smile on his face. At the same time, Surya expressed his gratitude towards the coach by folding his hands and doing a stylish ‘Namaste’.

Surya’s inning studded with maximums ended in the last ball of the 1st innings as Rovman Powell caught him at long-on. However, Surya’s inning was well supported by Venkatesh Iyer, who played yet another blistering knock to post a competitive total on board.

Chasing the total, West Indies lost two early wickets in the form of Kyle Mayers (6 of 5) and Shai Hope (8 of 4), while Nicholas Pooran* (20 off 11) and Rovman Powell (23 off 10) played some cracking shots to take West Indies total to 61-2 in 5.1 overs, at the time of writing.
