Umpiring in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been under scrutiny for so many reasons. Be it the on-field umpires or the third umpire, both of them have erred on multiple occasions in this tournament. The El Clasico of IPL also could not escape the ordinary level of umpiring.
In Match 59, where Mumbai and Chennai locked horns, there were so many controversies that made headlines. One of them was the on-field umpire changing his decision from wide to out within a fraction of a second. In the 6th over of the Mumbai Indians' innings, Simarjeet Singh bowled a beautiful inswinger.
The batter missed the line of the ball and it hit him somewhere as a sound was heard. CSK fielders appealed for a caught behind the dismissal. But what caught the eyes of the spectators was the reaction of the on-field umpire. While the CSK fielders were certain of a sound, the umpire looked in a bit of a dilemma. Initially, he spread his both hands to signal for a wide ball but raised his finger instead signalling out.

Mukesh Simarjeet shine!
Although the results did not go CSK's way, they can boast about the performance of their two young guns. Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh put on an exhibition of fast bowling in the first eight overs of MI innings. The pace bowling duo shared four wickets among them and conceded only 45 runs in eight overs. Choudhary was more impressive between the two as the left-arm quick took three wickets in his four overs.
MI batters looked completely helpless against these two as they were moving the ball in the air and extracting some movement from the pitch as well. Choudhary started the proceeding as he dismissed Ishan Kishan for the second time. The left-arm pacer then trapped Daniel Sams LBW for his second wicket in the game. He also got rid of debutant Tristan Stubbs with a sharp inswinger. Meanwhile, Simrajeet Singh took the big wicket of Rohit Sharma after getting hit for a couple of boundaries.
