A rare moment in football was witnessed on Sunday during the Canadian Premier League match between Valour FC and HFX Wanderers. Although the Winnipeg based club defeated the Wanderers 1-0, the former team's forward William Akio wasted an easy chance to score.

The incident took place in the 18th minute of the match when a deflected ball reached the Valour FC left winger, who set up a sublime cross to the forward Alessandro Riggi. The 28-year-old forward with his right foot tapped the ball through goalkeeper Christian Oxner. The ball was travelling slowly towards the goal before his teammate William Akio cleared it off the line.

Following the bizarre miss, the 23-year-old South Sudanese footballer said, "I’m just trying to go through the motions and let everything pass on by. It’s how you get over it, and how you respond the next game. Simple as that."

However, Valour FC later went on to win the match by 1-0 against HFX Wanderers as the winning team's striker Moses Dyer scored a late goal in the 84th minute to give his team a lead to defend. This was the third consecutive win for the Winnipeg side that took them on the fifth place in the Canadian Premier League standings.
