Virat Kohli stepped down from the post of India’s Test captain earlier this year after India’s Test series defeat to South Africa. Kohli ended his captaincy tenure with 40 wins under his belt in 68 Tests. Although the 33-year-old has quit India’s captaincy, the leader in him is yet to take a rest. An example of the same was seen during India’s fifth Test against England at Edgbaston.

The former India captain was seen leading the team talk when the Jasprit Bumrah-led India walked out to bowl against England in the first innings. Virat Kohli was seen having an animated chat with his teammates while captain Bumrah stood quietly and watched the former captain lead the team talk.

Pant and Jadeja put India in control

In an important game that can define the fate of the 5-match Test series, India crumbled under pressure after being put in to bat first. The visitors lost five quick wickets and were in all sorts of trouble when Ravindra Jadeja joined Rishabh Pant in the 28th over. However, the southpaw duo of Pant and Jadeja put on a show with the bat and bailed India out of trouble.

Jadeja and Pant put together 222 runs for the sixth wicket to push England on the backfoot. While Pant perished to Joe Root, Jadeja was cleaned up by James Anderson. Nonetheless, both the batters had done their job perfectly. Pant scored a blistering 146 in just 111 balls and created many records during his inning. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja scored his third Test century and first overseas Test century as he walked back to the pavilion with 104 (194) written against his name.

On the back of these two magnificent knocks and an entertaining 31* (16) by captain Bumrah, India posted 416 in their first innings. For England, James Anderson got a fifer yet again. The veteran pacer got Gill, Pujara, Iyer, Jadeja, and Siraj in the first innings.
