England took a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series with a comfortable 8-wicket win on Friday. However, the match was marred by heated discussion between Washington Sundar and Jonny Bairstow as the duo argued over an alleged obstruction incident. The incident happened in the 14th over of the England innings.

What Actually Happened between Washington Sundar and Jonny Bairstow

Dawid Malan played a chip shot straight down the ground and Washington was going for the return catch but Jonny Bairstow came in the bowler's way. The ball hit Bairstow on the helmet as he was turning to get back in the crease. The Indian spinner was not happy as he felt that Bairstow had made a deliberate movement to prevent him from taking the catch. Sundar appeared to accuse the English batsman of deliberately causing obstruction, which prevented him from taking a catch off Dawid Malan’s shot. Sundar even let out a loud shout of "F*ck", which literally startled Bairstow. Bairstow wasn't too pleased with Sundar's reaction either and there was a heated exchange between the two players over the incident.

Umpire Nitin Menon calmed things down

Umpire Nitin Menon intervened and calmed the two players down before things could escalate. He stood in between Washington Sundar and Jonny Bairstow as they were having a go at each other. After Menon's intervention, Jonny Bairstow walked away and India skipper Virat Kohli also gave Washington Sundar a little cuddle to cheer him up.

Bairstow remained unbeaten at 26 off 17 balls, while Malan was not out at 24, scored in 20 balls. Malan finished it off in style as he hit a massive straight six to seal the victory for his side.
